Between the 13th and 16th of February 2018, IREX Europe and its partner ATMA ran a media and Information Literacy (MIL) training in Tozeur in the South West of Tunisia. The training was led by 4 Tunisian MIL experts who had been trained under the project last September in a MIL Training of Trainers held in Tunis by Ms. Bérengère Blondeau from Savoir Devenir.
During the first day the participants were introduced to the concept of MIL and its importance to build critical thinking among youth and the general public. The next three days were dedicated to the three main components of our approach: how to develop MIL projects using photos; videos; audio reports for Webradios (which are common in our partner youth centres).
13 participants from Tozeur and Kebili (youth, representatives of Youth Centres, journalists) attended the trainings and learned how to develop and run media literacy activities in their communities. They will develop MIL strategies with the mentoring support of the 4 lead-trainers, and through small grants will implement local projects reaching out to more people in their communities and helping increase media literacy at the local level.
This project is supported by the European Union.
