Regional media in Moldova have increased their online audiences by 10 to 36 percent* by involving youth in their daily productions and through training and support under IREX Europe’s EU funded project EYCA.
BAS TV, Pro Media, ELITA TV, Expresul and Observatorul de Nord have all increased their online audiences as a result of long-term capacity building and mentoring support as well as through small grants from IREX Europe under the Empowering Youth to Become Civic Actors(EYCA) project.
Between July and October 2018, IREX Europe experts have been working together with media helping them involve youth in their programming. The youth participation is being supported joint projects implemented under the EYCA small grants program. Our experts have also worked with the editorial teams, helping better define their strategies and improve their productions.
Ukraine’s Sergiy Sidorenko, a journalist and editor of the European Pravda focused on providing editorial and content support, whileOlga Gututui, a Moldovan Expert and member of the Moldovan Audiovisual Coordinative Council, provide legal support and local context. Romania’s media expert

Whilst raising editorial and production standards, the expert team also worked to increase the media’s involvement with its community, and to expand the media’s involvement in and use of civic journalism, taking advantage of social platforms and working with youth in the community.

In parallel, IREX Europe has provided capacity building support in proposal writing and project management to the media to strengthen their ability to seek donor funds as they struggle to survive financially in a tough economic climate which is heavily weighted against independent media.
The EYCA project, is implemented by IREX Europe and its partner, Youth Media Center and funded by the European Union.
