Thursday, September 26, 2019, in Rabat, the partners met to discuss and officially launch the second phase of the project initiated in 2017 by the association Adala for the right to a fair trial, the NGO ARTICLE 19 MENA, the office of UNESCO for the Maghreb and the NGO IREX Europe. The meeting was also an opportunity to welcome a new partner within the consortium: Association Initiative Citoyenne “AIC”, based in Marrakech.
The overall goal of the project is to promote the effective implementation of a legal framework conducive to freedom of expression, association and assembly and in line with international standards and best practices, in Morocco. This, by supporting advocacy from civil society and the media and building the capacity of lawyers, journalists and media professionals and civil society.
In addition to the global advocacy for these three freedoms, the second phase of the project will focus particularly on the issues of the right to access to information, dialogue between justice and media sectors, associative radios, non-formal and online media.
Activities include consultations, reports, advocacy events, training and dialogue meetings, grants and communication campaigns, and an online platform for advocacy tools and techniques.
The second phase of this project is planned for a duration of 2 years.
