Under our program to promote Freedom of Expression, Association and Assembly in Morocco (link to FEAAM page), IREX Europe’s partners, Adala and ARTICLE 19 MENA, have released a report that assesses Morocco’s progress in implementing the recommendations presented to the country during the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) with regards to these fundamental freedoms.
The report evaluates Morocco’s implementation of its voluntary commitments through its ratification and accession to international conventions, as well as how well these conventions are followed and implemented on the ground in-country. It looks specifically at the recommendations Morocco endorsed and approved before the Human Rights Council in Geneva on the occasion of the 3rd UPR in 2017.
The report focuses on the following topics:
- Cooperation with international human rights mechanism
- Freedom of Expression, media and press
- Freedom of association and peaceful assembly
As part of the development of the report, the FEAAM program’s partners organized a national meeting in Rabat to consult a broad panel of CSOs in November 2019.
