IREX Europe and its partner Kow Media Foundation have organized the first ever Film, Pictures and Art festival in Hargeisa, Somaliland. The event was held at the Maan Soor hotel in the capital of Somaliland, attracting the attention of a wide audience, including government representatives and international media. Most importantly the event attracted a large youth audience to attend activities which took place between the 28th of February - 1st of March 2012.

The festival is part of IREX Europe’s Theatre for Peace Project in Somaliland, which uses theatre to promote peaceful dialogue on community issues. The project, funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, targets 48 Somali communities in the 6 regions of Somaliland utilising Drama for Conflict Transformation methodologies. Representatives from IREX Europe and KOW Media presented the 1st prize from the jury, a film which highlighted the effects of youth disenfranchisement
The festival included performances by the Geediga Nabada Peace Caravan
