SAIFE – Support for Access to Information and Freedom of Expression
The SAIFE program aims at promoting and protecting the right to Freedom of Expression (FoE) and the Right to Information (RTI) through an improved and more effectively implemented legal and regulatory framework that is in line with international standards and the Tunisian Constitution.
SAIFE seeks to empower and strengthen the capacity of Tunisian Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), including those in the regions, so they can advocate for better implementation of FoE and RTI, and to ensure CSOs and media from the regions participate in advocacy actions at the local and national level. The program will also help local administrations develop RTI action plans and build their capacity such that they can better implement them.
SAIFE will establish a National Academy to ensure young journalists use RTI in their work, and will also run Alternative Media Tours, taking journalists to Tunisia’s regions where they will help produce collaborative programmes for local and national broadcast and online dissemination. They will also produce off-line events to promote understanding of and support for FoE and RTI amongst Tunisians, especially the youth in the regions.
The project is implemented by IREX Europe, in partnership with ARTICLE 19 MENA and the Tunisian CSO GoAct.
